| First, the trunk stopped opening from the inside. also, the vsc off light, check engine light, and traction light all came on at the same time while i was driving and i have no idea why. the gas cap was on tightly, the fuel levels were right, there was no need for an oil change, and the car is only 2 1/2 years old in which i did not do any wreckless driving. | |||

| I am writing on behalf of my mother who was injured in an automobile accident on november 16, 2010. my mother was driving a loaner car provided by a toyota dealership located in suffolk county, new york. when my mother was driving the vehicle off the car lot, the vehicle accelerated and she hit an oncoming vehicle. my mother surffered a fractured sternum and was hospitalized for 4 days. on february 8, 2011, the vehicle was inspected for defects by toyota motor sales, usa. the conclusion was that the vehicle was operating properly and, there was no malfunctions noted. prior to the inspection by toyota, my nephew located this same vehicle on line, using the vin#, it was noted that the vehicle had previously been involved in an accident, and the accident was caused by acceleration problems. i am asking that your agency investigate this matter. it appears that there is some discrepancy between the current inspection and the previous facts/accident associated with this vehicle. i originally sent this letter to you agency on april 13, 2011. your agency responded on august 31, 2011 with the following notation, nvs-216 mec, ref. no. 10397716 | |||

| Last month, in june, i had a problem with my 2010 toyota corolla. i pulled out of a parking lot and was not going fast. i was approaching a steep hill and wanted to brake but i could not. in order to stop the car and avoid the hill, i crossed to the other side of the street into someone's lawn in order to give the car enough friction to stop. i ended up hitting a slope and the car stopped... but not from my brakes. since i was going very slow, no one in my car was hurt. one of the passengers in my car told me to try again. i drove the car around the lot and the brakes worked. it has been almost a month and toyota recently sent out a third party to inspect the vehicle. the car is currently sitting on my dealership's lot. they did not find anything wrong but i am absolutely sure that something is wrong because i pushed down on the brake the entire time before i hit the slope in the lawn. i am still waiting to hear an official response from toyota, the actual company. | |||

| In january 2011, my 2010 toyota corolla le experienced what has been termed 'sudden acceleration'- while i was braking, the accelerator engaged by itself, going all the way to the floor. my toyota corolla is the newer design i believe, it has nailed down floor mats, and the brake pedal was already worked on by toyota i believe in october 2010. i took my car to toyota, they simply issued an inspection result indicating that the car 'checked out to factory specifications.' toyota is lying about the cause of sudden acceleration, and continues to do so. the company would rather see people injured or killed than deal with the real problem(s). | |||

| I was driving a rental 2010 toyota corolla in siesta key, fl. i came to a stop on a busy downtown street on a friday night. as i sat at a complete stop with my foot on the brake as pedestrains were crossing, the car unexpectedly accelerated forward. i did not have my foot on the gas pedal & as this happened, i held my foot firmly on the brake to avoid hitting the pedestrians. luckily, i was able to hold the car back until the acceleration ended. this happened before the problem with toyota acceleration was made public. i reported this problem to the enterprise car rental agency in port charlotte fl, where i rented it, but they did not seem concerned. it wasn't until a week later that this story was in the news. i called the nhtsb to file a complaint, i'm filing this complaint again after hearing the gov't response to the study of this problem. from personal experience, i know for a fact this is not correct. this car i drove did not have the pedal stick or floor mat problem. it definitely accelerated completely on it's own without the pedal being depressed. if needed , i may be able to locate the vin from my rental receipt. | |||

| I have a 2010 toyota corolla with 1,900 miles on it, i purchased the veh in the middle of november. after purchasing the vehicle i began to notice that my right arm would collect static electricity when i would place it on top of the center arm rest/console. at first i would only get the static spark when i touched the metal frame of my door, then when i entered the vehicle i would once again collect the static electricity on my right arm from the center arm rest/console. i began to just not pay attention to the static build up i would get until yesterday december 29, 2010. i excited my vehicle and proceeded to open my gas compartment door, as i touched the compartment door, i received the static spark. now i am becoming concern because it happen when i touched the compartment door had it happened a few seconds later i could have been pumping gas. i drove to the toyota dealer near my home and was asked to sit in another 2010 toyota corolla and i also build up static electricity, then they had me sit in a 2010 toyota camry and nothing happened. clearly the type of material used on the center arm rest/console is causing this static build up on my arm. the material used in the camry is not causing this. the dealer told me that they didnt know of any static complaints. i would like to have someone investigate this, it isnt safe to go pump gas while having static electricity. i can show anyone who would like to see it how the hairs on my arm stand up once i touch the center arm rest/console. | |||

| Toyota 2010 corolla. sudden accelerator problem: after having the recall update to our corolla, a few months later, we experienced a sudden acceleration problem with our car. from a parked position next to the curb, we put our foot on the brake and then put the car in reverse to back away from the car in front of us, and the car suddenly accelerated and proceeded to jump over a curb and hit a tree next to us on the side walk. again, this was when the car was in reverse, so the acceleration was going backwards, with our foot on the brake. after taking our car to the toyota dealership for consultation on sept 7th, they indicate that they could not find anything wrong with the car and we would need to contact toyota directly on this problem. it is now nearly a month later, and we still have not been visited by the toyota engineering team. we were assigned a case number by toyota and told to wait to hear from them. we are still without our car and waiting some kind of formal inspection from the toyota corporate team. the local toyota dealer is trying to help as well and is also contacting toyota corporate for assistance. this is not fair to be without our car and some reassurance from toyota that this won | |||

| While merging into the left lane on the meadowbrook pkwy., my 2010 toyota corolla with (8,300 miles at the time), accelerator stuck. this was the first time this happended. i panicked, looked down, and saw the pedal stuck all the way down. after a few seconds i jammed on the brakes, & the pedal released. i do not believe this was due to the floor mat. my mat was not on the accelerator. this car from the beginning had poor pick-up. by that, i mean it was very slow while trying to merge onto pkwy's to the point that i always had to floor it. i also from time to time heard a very slight click while stepping on the acc. pedal. but for the first time, it actually stuck on me. i owned a 2005 corolla before this car, & it was noting like this current car. i also owned a 1999 camry, & a 2003 4-runner. until now, i never had a problem. | |||

| Purchased a 2010 toyota corolla used from a toyota dealer with under 5000 miles on the car. the third day i owned it the brakes began to make excessive noise. the car has been taken to three separate dealers all who fail to recognize or fix the problem the brakes sometimes shudder on uneven pavement or if braking on a slight curve. an official complaint has been made to toyota. the noise is excessive and loud and type of noise you would hear after 30,000 miles when in need of brake replacement. on the third visit to a dealer, a technician rode in the car and positively identified the noise. they then claimed to have taken apart the wheels/brakes only to claim there is nothing wrong with them and refused to replace the brakes under the existing warranty even though the problem has been reported since the vehicle was purchased. because the brakes make such a loud noise so frequently, it would seem the car may be unsafe to drive. also, although the car was purchased through the toyota dealer and as an owner i was registered with their online owner site, i was never informed of the latest safety recall, and didn't find out until the car was taken in a third time for the brake issue. the problem remains ongoing. | |||

| I started the engine and slowly drive because its a downhill position and i notice an engine light came from the dashboard , and decided to stop but it won't stop. the car keep running and tried to press the brake but unfortunately it won't stop. until i decided to crash the car to the gate of house in order to make the car stop and then , i sustain injuries, cuts , bruises. i believe the accident is cause by sudden acceleration/ defective part of the vehicle. | |||

| Basically, the car loses all its balance when you hit about 50mph on highway.steering becomes vague. the car drifts left or right, as if a really strong wind hits the sides. instead of getting heavier, steering becomes so light, you can't keep the car in the lane. in two recent occasions, i almost hit the cars which were driving next to me, in their lanes. | |||

| I bought a 2010 toyota corrolla s in june of 2009. whenever i would be driving on rough and uneven roads and had to use my brakes they would not work. the car would keep moving forward without slowing down when i would apply my brakes. this happened all of the time even after i took my car to the toyota dealership for them to inspect and fix the problem. i told them about this when i would take my car in for an oil change and routine maintenance and the mechanic assured me that if there were anything wrong with my brakes that they would find it and fix it because they do a complete check of my car and it functions when the do the routine maintenance and car diagnostic. however, the problem still continued and i had routine maintenance on my car 3 different times. my car was also taken to the same toyota dealership for the same problem during times it did not need maintenance and after taking my entire break system apart and still not finding anything, they told me that everything looked fine. however, this was not the case because the first uneven road i drove on my breaks did not work properly and the vsc symbol immediately came on and my car started making this constant annoying beeping sound that wouldn't go away. therefore i called toyota telling them about it and they said to bring the car back, so i did. they said they found a leak in one of my hoses. something that their car diagnositc computer never caught when i initially complained to toyota about this problem which existed since i bought the car. after getting the car back this time the problem seemed to improve a little but was still moving forward when i would break on uneven and rough roads.....i also told the toyota people that the break problem the prius was having seemed to be the same brake problem my corolla was having. although i am aware that the brake system in the prius is probably different from that of my corolla, because the prius is a hybrid. perhaps there is a connection. | |||

| While driving my corolla, even i do not hit the gas pedal, the rpm stays around 2000 and sometimes it started to stuck around 3000 rpm for 15 to 30 seconds than goes to normal. i had difficulty to slow down in busy traffic, because even i hit the breaks it does not cut the gas so the engine still tries to run and the car still tends to go, so i am not able to slow down or it takes time to slow down. i am driving my toyota in the 5th gear and around 3000 rpm. when i need a sudden stop, i let go the gas pedal and hit the break. the etcs commands high idle even i hit the breaks; the pistons are still working (the engine is still running in gear) with 3000 rpm so i am not able to slow down or stop. this is a serious safety problem. how come ecm would command for high idle from time to time? how can i stop the car or slow down in need while ecm is commanding high idle? it is impossible to have a proper control on the car when ecm commands high idle. who can give me guarantee that it would not get stuck in higher idles? (because it used to stuck around 2000 rpm and right now it also started sticking around 3000 rpm). when i get close to a curb or to an exit i stop hitting the gas pedal assuming the car will get slow but since it stucks at high rpm,s the car does not get slower when it is in the gear. | |||

| I have a recalled 2010 toyota corolla that had the sudden acceleration problem. i had a minor accident on march 3rd 2010 that involved my other vehichle, as i was putting my corolla into reverse & it jumped hard backwards like it was propelled i had barely tapped the gas, the drivers side rear bumper hit my other car there was no damage to that one but my corolla substainted a minor but big enough dent to the lower back bumper, i called the police made a report and now i am waiting on someone from toyota to get back to my husband and i to get this corolla inspected, it can't be repaired in the back until that is done! my husband has on many occasions himself felt the car surge when stepping on the pedal its happened to him backing up, going forward and driving down main roads! my car is brand new the value of it and what we pay makes me sick to even know these things are happening! i love my toyota and had a brand new 2009 yaris for year before we traded it in on this! anyhow my dealer | |||

| I have leased a 2010 corolla in july 2010 it now has approx. 4200 miles on it i continue to have unexplained what appears to be electronic or computer software problems with the vehicle. one instance was i put the car in drive, but the car did not move, but the engine reveed when i put my foot on the gas pedal. i then put the car in neutral and back into drive and the car functioned normally. i then drove approx 6 miles round trip and returned home, put the car in park, i had my foot on the brake, and my hands were touching nothing i was reading something that i had in my hand and the high beams popped on the light illuminated on the dash, it was fairly light out so i don't imagine that is a feature, it was a bit overcast and cloudy. the odometer at some point changed from displaying miles with 10ths and only displays full number miles, i think it was after i accidently hit the alarm button on the remote key that it changed but i don't know for sure. i also believe the car's computer was not properly set upon delivery, or they put in a software upgrade when i went to the dealership. the invoice shows they did a computer reset. the recall fix has already been performed on this vehicle, and i am now unable to get a response from toyota, i have been waiting 3 days since i reported it to the dealership and i have not received a response, and today i can not get through to toyota or the dealership due to high call volume. | |||

| Toyota corolla s 2010 [xxx] with extra stabilizer bar kit, purchased 11-30-09 with delivery in 12/09. 1) approximately 1 month after purchase ,the car starting to veer sharply right then left when driving on the highway, it was/is difficult to control requiring a tight grip on the wheel. it feels like strong winds are moving the car but winds are absent and road conditions are normal. this event comes and goes unexpectedly, generally lasts the duration of my commute once started, sometimes occurs with the tire pressure gauge but not always, sometimes occurs after rapid braking. it does not feel like an alignment or balance problem, the car darts from one end of the lane, to the median of the lane on its own. on this date 2-24-10 my local dealership filled the tires, and made a slight change to the left alignment they could not duplicate the problem and stated this could be a matter of personal preferences regarding how i felt the car drove when this occurred. the toyota manager also told me today that they understand there could be a problem but they have no direction on how to repair it. when asked then if he could guarantee my safety and that this would not occur again he stated no, but there was nothing for him to do. no injuries to date. i do not feel toyota is making reasonable efforts to quickly eliminate this problem, acknowledge a problem, and do not wish to resolve this with statements regarding my personal preference for the drive, and since this in their opinion is not reproducible for them it is not a viable problem for them to repair. 2) on approximately 2-11-10 i had to use my brakes in an emergency situation in which my brakes were temporally non-response. i had to downshift the gears, remove my foot totally from the gas pedal ,and maneuvered the car away from the other stopped car. no abs was felt, the brake pedal was depressed fully, this occurred at hwy speeds. no acknowledgement of problem or remedy proposed by toy currently. *tr | |||

| In an faux-article ad in florida today, a local florida space coast daily newspaper on 2/12, a local toyota dealer states that: every vehicle on the dealerships lot is fully qualified for sale. any needed repairs have been made... it goes on to state: in the meantime, sales continue on toyota's full line of vehicles. those affected by the recall were fixed quickly, thanks to swift delivery of needed parts by toyota. the ad then explains how owners of affected vehicles that are currently being driven can make arrangements to have them fixed within the next 90 days. this is outrageous! toyota is making statements that the customer comes first, the ceo looks like he's about to fall on his sword... yet they are repairing vehicles on the dealership's lot to prepare them for possible sale before they repair customer's vehicles that are being driven every day??? that really makes it seem like toyota's first priority is its customer's safety and satisfaction, huh? my mother-in-law drives a 2010 corolla. i called the dealer she purchased it from and asked if they were selling new corolla's at significant discounts. they assured me that they were. i asked about the recall situation, and was informed that if the car i selected hadn't been repaired yet, they would take care of it while i waited. i then asked if my relatives could bring their corolla in for repair and was told: no, we are working on camry's first. we only have enough parts to fix the corollas we have on the lot. how can they fix inventory before addressing customer vehicles??? *tr | |||

| Toyota of kingsport 2525 east stone drive kingsport, tn 37660 on november 27, 2009, i purchased a 2010 toyota corolla, from a 3rd party for my ex-wife of gate city, virginia. during the test drive, the 3rd party and i discussed the accelerator problem that was being reported in the news and on many internet websites. he assured me that there was not a problem. he also told me that the corolla had never in its entire history been the subject of a recall. i later found out this to be untrue. there is also a problem with the steering on this car. it wanders at higher speeds and will not hold a straight line. this is a serious and dangerous defect, especially for a 60-year old woman. you cannot take your eye off the road even for a split second or you may find yourself in the next lane or running off the road. this is highly unacceptable. according to the news, this steering defect has been reported to toyota on many occasions. my ex wife is on disability. she had major heart surgery in february, 2009. she had two heart valves replaced, two heart artery by-passes and had to have a graft on her heart aorta. she has many other disabilities to deal with. this was her first new car in 13 years. she previously drove a toyota tercel for 13 years - a good car. together, we have owned a camry, tercel, tundra, tacoma and now this corolla. but i can assure you that this will be the last toyota i will ever buy. toyota has know about these defects but still continued to sell them to the public. the word that comes to mind is fraud. i am at a loss as what to do. i am also on disability and cannot afford to replace this car for her and i worry each day that she has to drive this car. please respond in writing how you plan to address this situation. as each day passes, the chance of her being involved in an accident grows greater. you will receive a copy of this letter by certified mail. *tr | |||

| I own a 2010 toyota corolla. on several occasions, when i apply the brake, there is a shuddering feeling and sound before the braking hooks in. i would say this has happend about 10 times in the 6 months i have owned the car. in light of the other braking problems, i am more and more concerned about this one. i plan to discuss this to with toyota when i take my car for the other breaking and accelerator repairs. however, in light of all of the problems with the new cars, what is it going to take before the dot insists that there be a buyback of these 2009-1010 cars, which are obviously full of problems. where will it end? more accidents? i want my money back. *tr | |||

| As i was turning off a main road to a store parking lot my vehicle begain to accelerate after i removed my foot from the brake. i was going about 10mph at the time. i was able to quickly stop the car and turn it off. at this time, i will not allow anyone in my family to drive this vehicle. i am an engineer and there is no question in my mind that this vehicle was accelerating on its own after i removed my foot from the brake and i was driving on a road with no grade (flat road). | |||
